This photograph will give some idea of the level of equipment that can be found. Not all the equipment is needed by all residents and is not installed in every room. Nevertheless when it is needed it may well be made available and if there any cost implication they too will be discussed and agreed with local health board, local council or other funder.
Often the equipment is standard, for example a hospital bed. This non-standard bed is a three way profiling bed that lifts at each end and allows head up or head down. The torso part can be raised or lowered as can the feet area allowing us to care for all manner of particular medical or personal needs. To assist our staff the bed will come up to enable the caring to be undertaken at the correct height and this benefits both resident and carer.
Hanging from the blue line directly over the bed is an electric hoist to which is attached an appropriate sling to fit each resident. The hoist is attached to a tracking system that enables residents including those who have severe mobility problems to be transferred from bed to chair.
On the wall can be seen a locked medicine box in which is kept medications for each resident. These medications are dispensed by qualified nurses who are in attendance 24 hours a day.
